Blizzard May Give Away All WoW Expansions With Warcraft Movie Tickets

Blizzard Entertainment recently said that the release of theWarcraft movie may help improve World of Warcraft subscriber numbers, and now we’ve learned about one specific program that may help that happen. The developer is sending out a survey asking people if they would be interested in a “World of Warcraft Ultimate Movie Edition,” a version of the game that comes with all of the game’s expansions.

According to someone who received the survey on Reddit(verified there by a Blizzard rep), you would get all previously released WoW expansions, as well as one month of game time and an “exclusive” in-game item, when you buy a ticket to see the film. The survey itself does not say the base game is included, but it’s possible this is considered a given.

Right now, Blizzard is only exploring the idea. If the company does offer some kind of package, the contents could change between now and when the film arrives.

GameSpot has contacted Blizzard in an attempt to get more details on the company’s plans around crossover opportunities for Warcraft and WoW.

WoW’s next expansion, Legion, launches this summer, which is also when the Duncan Jones-directed Warcraft comes to theaters. Game designer Brian Holinka told GameSpot in November that it’s possible the film’s release may draw new players into WoW.

“It’s more of a broadening of the exposure of the universe to everyone,” he said about the movie at the time. “For us, our focus is just the game. Whether the movie’s there or not, the expansion–and the quality of the gameplay experience and content–is really what going to help people stick around and play the game. I think it will get a lot of people excited; it’ll probably turn a lot of people to [Legion] and that’ll be a good thing.”

Blizzard would probably like to see an improvement in WoW’s subscribers numbers. During Activision’s latest reporting period,WoW lost another 100,000 subscribers, falling to a nine-year low of 5.5 million. Activision will hold its latest earnings briefing next week, but the company has decided to stop sharing subscriber numbers.

Legion is World of Warcraft’s sixth expansion. It follows The Burning Crusade (2007), Wrath of the Lich King (2008),Cataclysm(2010), Mists of Pandaria (2012), and Warlords of Draenor (2014).
