Samsung Galaxy TabPro S vs. Apple iPad Pro: Which Big Tablet Is A Better Laptop Alternative?

Samsung Galaxy TabPro S

Samsung has thrown the gauntlet at Apple iPad Pro with the launch of the latest Galaxy TabPro S tablet. Both the Apple and Samsung offerings have the potential to become laptop alternatives, but the question remains: Which is the better of the two?

Here’s a comparison of the iPad Pro and the Galaxy TabPro S.

Display
The iPad Pro sports a 12.9-inch IPS LCD display while the Samsung tablet has a 12-inch Super AMOLED screen. Both the tablets have small screens, something that should be considered by customers who are looking for a laptop with wider display.

Processor
The iPad Pro has Apple’s own A9X processor, which the companyclaims to beat “most portable PCs in both CPU and graphics tasks.” A dual-core Intel Core M processor clocked at 2.2GHz and 4 GB of RAM powers the Galaxy TabPro S tablet.

Laptop owners often need to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. The tablets may not be fitted with high-end processors found in many regular laptops. However, both tablets produce enough speed that will allow customers to perform laptop tasks on the tablets.

Battery
The iPad Pro has a 38.5 Wh battery that can offer up to 10 hours of use. On the other hand, the Galaxy TabPro S has a bigger 39.5 W battery that can offer a slightly higher usage time of 10.5 hours in comparison to the iPad Pro.

Camera
The iPad Pro has an 8-megapixel iSight camera and a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera. The Samsung tablet, on the other hand, has 5-megapixel front- and rear-facing cameras.

Operating System
The Galaxy TabPro S is pre-installed with Windows 10, while the iPad Pro runs on iOS 9.

“The tablet delivers full PC functionality with both Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro for business, so that consumers and business users alike can enjoy all the features and functionality of the Windows 10 operating system, as well as compatibility with their existing IT infrastructure,” says Samsung.

The Galaxy TabPro S’ full PC functionality may make it more attractive to customers who want a laptop alternative.

“The Pro certainly seems powerful enough to work as a primary laptop for most users, but even with the new multitasking features, the operating system just can’t replace the full functionality of Windows 10 or OS X,”says Brian Heater of TechTimes.

Keyboard
The Galaxy TabPro S comes with a full-sized keyboard cover which also has a touchpad. According to Samsung, the keys are significantly bigger than other keyboards, making the keyboard more suitable for customers who want to perform typing tasks on their tablets.

The iPad Pro can be used with a keyboard, but customers have to purchase compatible keyboards separately.

Storage
The iPad Pro is available in 32 GB and 128 GB storage versions. However, the Galaxy TabPro S comes with either 128 GB or 256 GB internal storage.

Customers looking for an alternate tablet with higher storage may opt for the 256 GB variant of the Galaxy TabPro S more than the iPad Pro.

Weight
The iPad Pro (without the keyboard) weighs 25.43 ounces, or 723 g, which is slightly heavier than the Galaxy TabPro S (without the keyboard) that weighs 24.55 ounces, or 696 g. Both the tablets are relatively lighter in comparison to laptops available in the market.
