Update 8:45 p.m.: Donald and Melania Trump will leave Palm Beach International airport for Washington on Sunday afternoon, the White House announced today. A press schedule lists a departure time of 4:20 p.m. and arrival time of 6:45 at the White House.
Update 5:15 p.m.: President Trump teed off with another golf celebrity today: Palm Bech County resident and six-time Master’s champion Jack Nicklaus.
The Associated Press reports that they were was spotted at Trump’s West Palm Beach course this afternoon along with Nicklaus’ son, Gary. The president spent about six hours at Trump International Golf Course starting around 2 p.m., according to earlier reports. It was Trump’s fourth day in a row visiting one of his golf courses during his Thanksgiving visit to Mar-a-Lago. On Friday, he was joined at his club in Jupiter by Tiger Woods, PGA champ Dustin Johnson and another tour veteran, Brad Faxon.
Nicklaus has been a longtime Trump supporter who endorsed him before the election. The Trump course in Jupiter was designed by Nicklaus.
Update 4:50 p.m.: President Trump tweeted about the state of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, calling it a “total disaster as run by the previous Adminstrations [sic] pick.” He was referring to Richard Cordray, the bureau’s previous director, who resigned Friday.
Cordray named his own successor, leading to an open conflict with Trump — who announced a different person as acting head of the agency later in the day.
According to The Associated Press, senior administration officials said today that they expect no trouble when Trump’s pick for temporary director of the CFPB shows up for work Monday. But Cordray, an Obama appointee long criticized by Congressional Republicans as overzealous, has cited a different rule in saying the law is on his side and his pick, Leandra English, who was his chief of staff.
Update 2:30 p.m.: A man in a red van tried to cut into Trump’s motorcade as POTUS made his way back to Mar-a-Lago from Trump International Golf Course, according to the latest White House Pool report.
It is unclear if the man was detained by law enforcement or issued a citation.
A few minutes later, a small group of protesters stood on Southern Boulevard holding signs, with one that read, “Don the con man.” Another group of supporters stood a few feet away waiving signs and flags bearing red and blue hearts. Half of the supporters were also wearing “Make American Great Again” hats.
Trump tweeted for the first time on his social media account today, celebrating “Small business Saturday.”
2:00 p.m.: President Trump left in his motorcade from Trump International Golf Course at 1:52 p.m. He spent time at the club for about six hours.
10:32 a.m.: The Trump’s private jet sits in the shadow of Air Force One. The president is nearby, at his golf course in West Palm Beach. He has been at the club since 8 a.m. No word on how many holes or his golf partners.
