LG Announces 'Play Begins' Event at MWC 2016

Now that CES 2016 trade show is over, all eyes are glued towards the upcoming MWC 2016 that will take place in Barcelona from February 22-25. LG is amongst the first in tech industry to have sent out invites for its MWC 2016 gig.

The company’s keynote event is scheduled for February 21 as per the invite. Not much has been revealed by the firm. However, the invite image shows a jack-in-the-box behind the text “Play begins”, leaving us guessing at what the device might be.

The South Korean consumer electronics is only expected to unveil its G5 smartphone later in the year, with the LG G4 launching in April last year, and the G3 in May 2014. The company at MWC 2015 had unveiled four mid-range handsets – the Magna, Spirit, Leon, and Joy.

LG’s MWC 2016 invite hints at the launch of a new series of smartphones focusing on music, and an ecosystem of multimedia offerings alongside. LG in June last year launched its LG Band Play that equipped a 1-watt speaker.

Another guess is that the company might introduce a new music service. However, that seems unlikely as it launched a high-fidelity (Hi-Fi) music service in August last year. the Hi-Fi music provides a playback of 24bit/ 192KHz, which is said to be six times the audio clarity offered in a typical CD – 16bit/ 44.1kHz.

Also possible is the launch of a new wearable. Although it’s a far cry but still since LG Watch Urbane and its second generation was unveiled at the last MWC trade show, it might be possible that LG will launch the wearable device’s third generation. The invite could also mean that LG can launch a new LG Music flow model. However, we would have to wait until February 22 to know what the South Korean tech giant is preparing to unveil.
