Thanksgiving Holiday Closure
DDPHE and most City and County of Denver offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25 for the Thanksgiving Day holiday. The Department Operations Center will respond to any inquiries during the closure on Friday, Nov. 26.
Vietnamese Community Vaccine Clinic Success
DDPHE along with Father Joseph Dang hosted a successful vaccine clinic at the Vietnamese American Community Center on Wednesday, Nov. 17. The clinic provided COVID-19 vaccines, booster shots, and flu immunizations to Vietnamese Denverites. In total, 246 vaccinations were administered.
While Denver’s overall vaccination rates are high, there are racial disparities when it comes to who has received the COVID-19 vaccine. DDPHE and the City of Denver are working to reduce these disparities by partnering with community organizations and focusing vaccine outreach efforts in communities with lower vaccination rates.
New CDPHE Public Health Order
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) published an amended public health order this week, detailing coordination between the state and several metro Denver counties to require that everyone be vaccinated at indoor, unseated events with more than 500 people. The protocols take effect on Nov. 19. The City of Denver is complying with this public health order.
All Vaccinated Coloradans 18+ are Eligible for COVID-19 Booster
All Coloradans who are 18 or older and vaccinated now qualify for a COVID-19 booster shot.
According to CDPHE, the state of Colorado is in a significant wave of disease spread with one in 48 Coloradans estimated to be infectious, therefore it’s important for all eligible people to receive their booster vaccine. All residents 18 years and older who received their primary series of Pfizer or Moderna at least six months ago, or their primary Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago, are eligible for a booster shot.
Holiday Safety Tips
Vaccinations are the most effective method of protecting yourself, your family and your community this holiday season. Keep these tips in mind while preparing for the holidays:
To be considered fully vaccinated for Christmas (Dec. 25), people should get their first dose of vaccine by the following dates: Pfizer by Nov. 20 and Johnson & Johnson by Dec. 11.
Though the deadline to be fully vaccinated by Thanksgiving or the first night of Hanukkah has passed, it’s still a good idea to begin the vaccine series before you attend any holiday gatherings. One vaccine can provide up to 80% protection.
For those traveling for the holidays, federal law requires anyone over the age of 2 to wear a face covering at all times in transportation facilities, including on the airplane and in the airport and on buses and trains.
Wear well-fitting masks over your nose and mouth if you are in public indoor settings if you are not fully vaccinated, and for extra protection if you are vaccinated

Pediatric Pfizer Vaccine Available & Encouraged
COVID-19 has significantly impacted the lives of children. Now that all school-aged children are eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccinations, it’s time to help kids get back to doing what they love. To help parents find resources and information on pediatric COVID-19 vaccines, DDPHE has partnered with local health partners in the Denver Metro Area and Immunize Colorado. Together we are launching a public information campaign, “COVID-19 Vaccines Help Kids Be Kids,” featuring trusted health information from pediatricians, public health experts, and local parents.
Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s pediatrician and continue to check pharmacies and community clinics for pediatric vaccine availability. Children’s Hospital Colorado is offering vaccine clinics for children ages 5-11 with appointments available in December. Find clinic dates and sign up for an appointment in advance.
COVID-19 Monoclonal Antibody Treatment
The FDA has authorized neutralizing antibody treatments for emergency use, which can prevent severe illness for some people who are infected with COVID-19. The treatments are available to some people who have tested positive for COVID-19, have mild to moderate symptoms, and who are at high risk of developing severe illness. A CDPHE mobile monoclonal antibody clinic will be available in Denver for eligible patients who have been referred by a health care provider.

For the safest holiday gathering, and to protect those with compromised immune systems or children who are too young to be vaccinated, get tested for COVID-19 in advance. COVID-19 Dashboard is Back
As of Monday, Nov. 15, the Denver COVID-19 data dashboard is live. Beginning on Nov. 22, data on these dashboards will be updated each weekday by 6:30 p.m. Current dashboards reflect case summary data and outbreak information. Zip code specific data, breakthrough data, and positivity rate will be forthcoming.
Denver County Current Status:
As with many counties in Colorado, Denver has seen a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, percent positivity, and hospitalizations over the last two weeks. Currently the COVID-19 incidence rate in Denver is 293.2 cases per 100,000 people, and the one-week average lab positivity is 7.8%. Although Denver’s lab positivity is above the threshold for concern, 5%, the rate remains lower than many surrounding metro counties. The highest rates of infection, and the largest percentage of cases, in Denver remains among young adults from 20-39 years old.
80.3% of people 12 and older are fully vaccinated in Denver. The addition of children ages 5-11 to the population of eligible vaccine recipients will cause the percentage of people vaccinated to drop temporarily once data is available. Remember, vaccination is the most effective way to protect yourself, your family and your community against COVID-19.
