Huawei P20 Pro Update Brings Automatic Super Slow Motion Video Function, June Security Patch: Report

HIGHLIGHTS

  • A new mode in Huawei P20 Pro automatically captures slow motion videos
  • Latest update also brings latest Android Security patch
  • The software update has a build number of B131

Huawei P20 Pro, in its latest update, has reportedly received improvements to its camera, the latest Android security patch, and other optimisations. The key highlight of the update is that Huawei has added automatic functionality for a super slow motion video feature. This means, like the Samsung Galaxy S9, even the Huawei P20 Pro can now detect motion and automatically start recording in the super slow motion mode. Earlier, P20 Pro users had to hit record button manually. To recall, Huawei had launched the P20 Pro back in March at an event in Paris. The smartphone arrived with a triple-camera setup and 960fps super slow motion video recording functionality was mentioned quite a few times during the launch. As it appears, this feature is getting tweaked in an upcoming firmware update.

According to XDA forum members, the latest software update for Huawei P20 Pro has a build number of B131 and it adds the ability to automatically take slow-motion videos, much like the Galaxy S9 The feature can also be seen in a video posted by an Instagram user. The new firmware appears to be quite useful as it enables the P20 Pro to automatically detect when something is about to happen and then start recording the 32x slow-motion video. Earlier, the timing for hitting the recording button was tricky as it was possible to miss the moment.

The B131 firmware also includes a few changes to the camera app in Huawei P20 Pro. The zoom button has been moved lower down on the display, possibly making it more reachable. Also, the Portrait Mode has reportedly been improved in the latest update, but that could just be an observation.

Additionally, the update also includes the June 2018 security patch. The B131 update also optimises power consumption for prolonged usage, improves system performance and stability to smoothen up operations and optimises the wallpaper display for an improved user experience. Interestingly, for users who have been experiencing an issue where the voice of the person on the other end of a call got delayed when using the Google Assistant to answer the call, the latest update comes with the fix.

As of now, the only way to test out the update is by manually flashing it onto your device. None of the few who have received the B131 update got it over the air. They reportedly installed it using the Huawei Recovery Updater. However, Huawei is expected to release an over-the-air update very soon. We’ve reached out to Huawei for confirmation of the update’s availability in regions including India, and will update this space when we hear back.
