Microsoft has managed to leak yet another Windows Insider build to some users who were quick to spot upcoming changes to the Windows 10 OS.
Recently, Redmond spilled the beans on the redesigned Start Menu and new Control Center. As spotted by serial leakster WalkingCat in the unreleased Build 18950 (via Neowin), Windows 10 could be getting a ‘cloud restore’ option.
What this means is that when you’re trying to reset your computer, Windows 10 will offer an option to download a fresh installation of the OS from the cloud other than the one that’s already stored on the machine.
This option is available on the Windows 10 BootUX menu aka the advanced options menu that provides Windows 10 troubleshooting among other options.
As of now, Windows 10 users can reset their PCs by going to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery. Here they have an option of whether or not they want to delete their files and other system settings during the reset process.
The new feature appears to be similar to the internet-based factory reset feature on Apple’s MacOS devices. It’s believed that the new cloud restore option is being designed for Windows Core OS, but it would be great to see it on the regular Windows 10 as well.
It would allow users to jump to the latest public release during a reset process. This is helpful in case someone has skipped a feature update or if the locally stored installation is corrupt.
However, what adds to the list of cons is that there would be a need for the internet every time someone wants to reset their machine (given the situation that Microsoft removes the local reset option in the future).
