Ubisoft is giving its avid fans a Christmas present: a Rainbow Six Siege Free Play Weekend.
The studio announced on Dec. 18 its new “friend referral program.” Before anyone gets their hopes up, though, it has to be noted that this promo is exclusively for the PC version of the game.
Ubisoft said that starting Dec. 18, those who own Rainbow Six Siege will be given four keys to dish out to friends so they can take advantage of the special free play weekend, which kicks off at 3:01 p.m. PST and ends on Dec. 20 at 9:01 p.m. PST.
Existing PC players of Rainbow Six Siege should head over to thiswebsite to nab the four keys to hand out to their friends. For those who wish to enjoy the free play weekend, just get an access key from a pal who owns the game.
That’s not all Ubisoft is putting to the table. Siege owners who will refer a friend will get a 24-hour XP boost as soon as the free weekend ends.
To entice new players, the studio is also throwing in a 25 percent markdown for those who wish to purchase the full game. They can redeem the discount via Ubisoft’s UPlay Shop.
“Lead the way! Create your perfect Squad by inviting up to four friends to play Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege on PC for free this weekend, and get rewards,” notes Ubisoft. “Time is running out! Log in now and send your teammates their codes.”
The game also received a patch to fix a few problems and provide high-resolution textures. Another enhancement the patch brought in is the new auto-kick feature which addresses the issue on players killing their teammates on purpose.
The issue was first noted when the open beta version of the game was launched. Ubisoft noticed a high incidence of players intentionally killing teammates, affecting up to 7.8 percent of matches. With the update, team killers will now be automatically kicked out of a match.
“We will be tracking if the auto-kick feature reduces intentional team killing instances and will be adjusting the rigor of the parameters accordingly,” Ubisoft stated in the update log.
