Tom Clancy’s The Division Beta Has Already Been Hacked

It appears that the beta build for The Division has already been hacked. This information surfaced yesterday and we got more details about it via Reddit. Basically, the game’s PC beta does not have any anti-cheat system at all, and almost everything can be hacked on a client’s side.

As Reddit’s member ‘division_throwaway’ wrote:

“However, without stating anything specific on how to ‘cheat’ in this beta. It’s scarily simple.

Everything from ammo count, level XP, Dark Zone currency, player speed are all CLIENT trusted, and take time to sync via server time.

For example. Infinite ammo is possible by removing the instruction that’s responsible for adding/subtracting ammo into your player structure.

Speedhacking is possible by modifying the delta time used in the game’s update.”

In order to back up his claims, the user has provided a video showing speedhacking/desyncing via Clientside.

Earlier yesterday, the following video surfaced, showing a hacker killing someone without being visible. Division_throwaway had this to say about this situation.

“And the speedhacking is possible for said ‘invisible people’. If a player that is speedhacking runs ahead of the position stated on the server, because the client trusts the position of the players, you can very well quickly take out an enemy without them seeing you and reclaim the reward/loot.”

Do note that this may have been done on purpose, so that hackers do not get the chance to experiment with the game’s anti-cheat system. We’re simply raising awareness. Don’t assume that the final version will not feature any anti-cheat system.

All in all, here is hoping that Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment will be able to protect the game from hackers!
