Koei Tecmo, the game publisher that helped popularize the hack and slash fighting game genre, announced on Thursday, Nov. 26, that the new Attack on Titan game for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita will be released in Japan in February 2016.
The Japanese video game company first revealed plans for anAttack on Titan game title for PlayStation consoles in August.
“Having evolved from a manga/anime series to an internationally recognized brand, we were enchanted by the opportunity to create our own take on humanity’s last stand against these overwhelmingly powerful beings, the Titans,” Hisashi Koinuma, president of Koei Tecmo, said about the upcoming game.
“Our studios are already pouring all of their passion and excitement into it and we hope to reveal more information soon!”
Koei Tecmo said that Omega Force, the team behind the company’s smash hit Dynasty Warriors franchise, will handle the development of the new game. Attack on Titan, however, will not feature some signature game elements that made the Chinese history-themed titles popular.
While there is already an existing game developed by Chunsoft for the Nintendo 3DS, Koei Tecmo’s version will be the first time the title has been fully adapted for gaming consoles.
Based on early game footage, Attack on Titan for the PlayStation makes use of a stylized method to cel-shading, which builds up on techniques established for Omega Force’s Dynasty Warriors: Gundam games. It also takes artistic elements from the popular anime series of the same name.
In one of the trailers released, Eren Yeager is shown along with his comrades squaring off with several titans attacking a city. They use the Maneuver Gear to propel themselves toward the massive creatures.
