Doors are a big thing in Minecraft and even more of them are coming to the Windows and Pocket Edition version of the game.
Mojang is bringing a huge update to Minecraft: Pocket Edition and Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition beta players. Yes, there are five new door types included in the update but that’s just the beginning.
The biggest addition is redstone. The ability to mine redstone dust adds a whole new layer of gameplay and possibilities for Minecraft players on those platforms.
“Redstone is a mysterious power in Minecraft that works a bit like electricity in the real world. Though this is the first iteration of redstone for Pocket and Windows 10 Editions, it still gives you the chance to create intricate devices including powered rollercoasters and automated doors,” Mojang’s Owen Hill explains on the company’s website.
Redstone items in the update include Redstone Wire, Torch, Lamp, Levers, Buttons, Pressure plates, Tripwires, Trapped Chests and Detector Rails. More importantly, however, Redstone finally coming to Windows 10 and Pocket Editions brings the game closer to the original Java-based version of Minecraft. This move by Microsoft is especially critical as the Windows 10 version will be getting virtual reality support with devices such as Microsoft’s HoloLens and Oculus Rift.
Beyond redstone, the update also brings more evil bunnies. Equipped with smarter AI, Minecraft’s bunnies will eat player’s crops when they are hungry. But as cute as they are, the more of them there are, the more destructive they’ll also get. Finally, for $1.99, the Biome Settler Pack provides new settlers and new skins for Minecraft players to use for their characters.
