Optoma released its HD26 projector two years ago. Reviewers liked it at the time, especially considering its low price tag of $599. The HD26 did have some issues, though, like showing rainbow artifacts. But generally, it could produce a decent image under the right conditions and with the right adjustments. Now, Optoma is updating the HD26 with the release of its HD27. This time, the projector’s a bit smaller; Optoma shaved off nearly an inch from its height. The HD26’s dimensions were 12.4 x 8.8 x 4.0 inches, and the HD27 is 11.73 x 3.7 x 9.0 inches. The new device also has a wider projection screen size at 27.88 to 305.3 inches and comes with a brighter 195-watt lamp. That lamp can last up to 8,000 hours. The contrast ratio, which some previous reviewers took issue with on the HD26 because it isn’t native, is the same at 25,000:1. The HD27 also still has the same ports, including two HDMI ports, a 3D VESA port, and a port that supports the MHL mobile protocol. The MHL protocol lets you play movies and TV from certain devices, like a Roku Streaming Stick and certain smartphones. So which drawer do you want to store the HD27 in because it’s so baby?
