Black Ops 3 Reveals New Multiplayer Map & Specialist

Treyarch pulls back the curtain on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, revealing the ninth and final Specialist character for the game, as well as a new multiplayer map.

In the first of the planned weekly livestream leading up to the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Treyarch introduced the Specialist character Firebreak to the world, along with a brand new multiplayer map called Redwood.

The Redwood multiplayer map for Black Ops 3 looks to be a change of pace from the other previously revealed maps for the game. Set in a heavily wooded area in northern California, Treyarch claims that the Redwood map is one of the most balanced multiplayer maps they’ve ever created. Players will have to judge that claim for themselves when the game launches in a few weeks, and they will even have a chance to do so with friends on the couch, as Treyarch also confirmed 4-player split-screen during the livestream.

As stated previously, Treyarch also revealed a new Specialist character named Firebreak during the stream. Firebreak is the ninth and final Specialist character in the game, and as his name implies he is equipped with a deadly flamethrower called the Purifier. Besides the Purifier, Firebreak also has a Heat Wave special ability at his disposal, which disables enemy equipment and stuns anyone unlucky enough to be caught in the blast radius.

We weren’t entirely sure what to expect from the Black Ops 3 weekly video series from Treyarch, but it seems like they revealed quite a bit. Between unveiling the Redwood multiplayer map, 4-player split-screen, and Firebreak, one has to wonder what Treyarch has in store for the next few episodes.

Perhaps they will use the remaining episodes to expand more on the game’s other modes, such as the campaign or the “Shadows of Evil” Zombies mode. The latter would be especially interesting to see more of, as we’ve haven’t seen anything new on that front since the Comic-Con 2015 trailer. The streams also offer the chance to learn more about the leaked Dead Ops Arcade 2 as well. Whatever Treyarch has in store, this first episode set the bar high, and now fans will be expecting similarly big reveals in the episodes to follow.
