The late martial arts master Bruce Lee, who appeared in many movies but never fought professionally, will be a playable character in EA Sports UFC 2, developers announced today. This is Lee’s second appearance in EA’s UFC franchise following his debut with the first EA Sports UFC game in 2014.
In a blog post, EA described Lee as “one of the most gifted, dangerous, and chariasmatic martial artists in history. We are once again honored to include Bruce on our roster of in-game fighters.”
If you bought the first EA Sports UFC game and also pick up the sequel, you will be able to play as Lee right away for free. Lee can compete in the Welterweight, Bantamweight, Featherweight, and Lightweight divisions.
That’s not the only way to unlock him, however. You can add Lee to your roster once you beat EA Sports UFC 2’s career mode. Doing this also unlocks Mike Tyson, Bas Rutten, and Kazushi Sakuraba. Alternatively, these three characters can be obtained from day one if you preorder.
Additionally, EA Access members who download EA Sports UFC (one of the platform’s 15 free games) and log into the game’s online servers will unlock Lee for EA Sports UFC 2 when it launches.
Lee appeared in movies like Enter the Dragon and The Way of the Dragon before his death in 1973. Shannon Lee, Bruce Lee’s daughter, says that while her father may have never fought professionally, in some ways, he more of a real fighter than a lot of MMA brawlers today because he “lived and breathed” martial arts.
