Sony PlayStation was the bestselling video game console this Black Friday, reports market data collection firm InfoScout.
Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation are the top three gaming consoles that attract millions of buyers around the world. Black Friday deals entice even more customers to these gaming consoles.
InfoScout says they studied a group of 2,364 customers who bought video game items in the month of October this year. InfoScout then compared the purchasing pattern of these customers with the 1,020 Americans who bought a gaming console, its accessory or a video game during this year’s Black Friday promotional deal period that started at 6 p.m. on Nov. 26 and ran through to the end of Nov. 27 (Black Friday).
InfoScout also divided purchasers based on their age: millennial or between the age of 18 years and 35 years, and middle age or between the age of 36 years and 55 years.
InfoScout found that on the average day (per the data established from the October 2015 group), 40 percent of millennials purchased PlayStation, 39 percent Xbox and 20 percent Nintendo.
However, during Black Friday, 48 percent of millennials bought PlayStaion, 32 percent purchased Xbox and the 19 percent bought Nintendo.
In the middle age category, the Xbox was more popular. In the October group, 35 percent of consumers purchased Microsoft’s console, 34 percent Nintendo and 30 percent PlayStation. During this year’s Black Friday, 37 percent of buyers in this group bought Xbox, 33 percent PlayStation and 30 percent Nintendo.
InfoScout says the PlayStation was the clear winner with the millennials this Black Friday. PlayStation was able to entice customers in the millennials category and directly grabbed Xbox’s share on Black Friday.
“By contrast, Middle Aged video game buyers’ preferences only changed slightly (away from Nintendo) during the Black Friday shopping spree, with Xbox capturing a slightly higher share of those gamers’ wallets than PlayStation,”per InfoScout.
InfoScout suggests that the latest study results were found after analyzing purchase receipts of 250,000 customers from Thanksgiving night through to end of Black Friday.
