The Microsoft HoloLens isn’t out for public consumption just yet, but Microsoft has started promoting the device by asking developers to publish clips of them showing off what the HoloLens can do.
Most of these videos are around seven or eight seconds long, with each of the videos showing off a different app for the headset. One of these demos features HoloLens program manager Varun Mani streaming Halo 5: Guardians through the Xbox One on a virtual screen.
While the video is a little glitchy, it’s a pretty good indication of what we should expect from the HoloLens for things like first-person shooters. While the HoloLens’ field of vision is known to be rather slim, it appears as though Mani has been able to use a full field of view, however, it’s unclear how he did so or what camera technology was used for it.
Despite this, gaming on the HoloLens could be a big deal once the headset is finally released to the public. Back in January, Xbox head Phil Spencer said that the company was looking into possibilities when it comes to gaming on the HoloLens, with the possibilities likely to include both custom-designed games and game streaming from the Xbox.
Of course, it’s important to mention that custom-made games for the HoloLens will likely be a lot more exciting than game-streaming and playing using a virtual display. The virtual display is definitely cool, allowing users to play wherever they want, but it’s not as immersive as custom-made software could be.
